This Privacy Policy explains how RoleWeaver.ai ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use the RoleWeaver.ai platform (the "Service"). It should be read together with our Terms of Use. By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described here.

1. Data We Collect

Data you provide

  • Account data: email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), display name, and authentication identifiers when you sign in with Google or Twitter/X.
  • Profile & preferences: language, content settings (including your 18+ confirmation and NSFW lock), and other settings you configure.
  • User Content: worlds, characters, locations, lore, stories, prompts, messages, and any images or media you create, upload, or generate.
  • Communications: messages you send to support, abuse reports, and DMCA notices.

Data collected automatically

  • Usage & technical data: IP address, browser and device information, log data, timestamps, and feature usage needed to operate and secure the Service.
  • Cookies & local storage: session and authentication tokens and essential preferences. See Section 7.

Data from third parties

  • Payment processor: subscription status, plan, and transaction metadata from our payment processor. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Identity providers: basic profile information (such as email) when you choose to sign in with Google or Twitter/X.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
  • To provide the Service: storing your worlds and characters, running interactive stories, and generating AI text, images, and video.
  • To process subscriptions, credits, and payments.
  • To enforce our Terms, moderate content, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
  • To secure the Service, debug issues, and maintain reliability.
  • To communicate service-related notices (e.g., account, billing, security, or material changes to terms).

3. Legal Bases (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you request and manage your account and subscription.
  • Legitimate interests — to secure the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, and improve reliability, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law, including responding to lawful requests.
  • Consent — where required, for example for non-essential cookies; you may withdraw consent at any time.

4. AI Processing

To generate text, images, and video, the prompts and relevant context you submit are sent to third-party AI providers acting as our processors. These providers process this data only to return generated output to the Service. AI-generated output is associated with your account and stored as part of your User Content. Do not submit personal data of others or sensitive information you do not want processed by AI providers.

5. How We Share Data

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Service providers / processors: hosting and infrastructure, AI text/image/video providers, our payment processor, and email delivery — each bound to process data only on our instructions.
  • Other users: when you publish or share content (e.g., via Discover), that content and any associated display name are visible to other users according to the sharing permissions you set.
  • Legal & safety: authorities or third parties where required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the Service (including reporting illegal content).
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

6. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including outside the EEA. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

7. Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies and browser storage that are strictly necessary to operate the Service — primarily to keep you signed in and remember essential preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may prevent you from signing in.

8. Data Retention

We retain account and User Content data for as long as your account is active. When you delete content, it is removed from the Service, except where copies have been cloned by other users under sharing permissions you granted. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain data to comply with legal, accounting, or security obligations, or to resolve disputes.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location (including under the GDPR/UK GDPR and the CCPA), you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Delete your data ("right to erasure").
  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Data portability.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

10. Security

We use technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, hashing of passwords, and encryption of certain stored content fields. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

RoleWeaver.ai is an 18+ platform. The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it and terminate the associated account.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email with reasonable notice. The "Last updated" date above indicates when this Policy was last revised. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
